Roselyn Makalu

Roselyne Makalu is the creator of La Pause Décoloniale, an independent feminist podcast broadcasting on Radio Djiido since 2022. Self-funded and powered by a dedicated core group of local women, the show aims to amplify Kanak women’s voices on self-determination and decolonization while deconstructing prejudices.

She is also the founder and president of Women Weaving Peace - KNC, an organization rooted in frontline work in Kanaky New Caledonia. Her approach centers on indigenous peacebuilding as a deeply vital healing process, driven from the grounded perspective of indigenous Kanak women.

As a writer, this is her first publication for Kalja—stepping out of her comfort zone, as she usually shares her writings within a close circle.

La Pause Décoloniale creates a space where Kanak and Oceanian women’s voices can fully take their place, to think, narrate, and transmit the realities of decolonization. Women of Kanaky New Caledonia speak about their struggles — their inheritances, their resistances, their visions — shedding light on the political, social, and cultural paths shaping the country today.
