3rd Place Youth: Chinese Life
By Taylor Yao
In the street Ni-Van people think I don’t understand Bislama or speak it. They talk about me and think I don’t know anything. One time me and my friend were walking when a boy said, “Fuckem papa blo u.” One time a group of boys were talking about a Chinese shop selling parts for bikes. I walked up to them, “Do you guys need help for directions?” They stepped backwards. Most Asians do not speak that well even if they are born here. I speak Bislama better than any language.
Taylor Yao is a 14-year-old Chinese-ni-Vanuatu boy, and he likes playing pubg and outdoor activities. He goes to Luganville International School and is in grade 8.
